I wonder whether Noah thought what God asked him to do was a good idea or whether he was a bit unsure about it. What do you think? Would you have done what God asked? Noah did.
God still asks us to do things today. Sometimes they seem like very big and challenging things to do, but God is always with us, and will never leave us to face the challenges on our own. He will always help us. What sort of things do you think he wants you to do?
When was the last time someone asked you to do something?
Did you do what they asked?
Every day we ask people to do all sorts of things for us, and lots of people ask us to do lots of things for them. Sometimes it is a big thing, and sometimes it is a small thing. Sometimes we can do it quickly, and sometimes it takes a long time. Sometimes we need help to do it, and sometimes we can do it on our own. Sometime it seems like a sensible idea, and sometimes it seems like a silly idea. Sometimes we want to do it, and sometimes we don't. How many things can you think of that you have asked someone else for today?
God asked Noah to do something for him. It was a very big task, that would take him a long time to finish, and he would need a lot of help to do it. God asked Noah to build an ark, and then he gave him instructions about who and what he should take with him in the ark.
The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.”
And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.
As a reminder of what God asked Noah to do, look out for animals and birds this week. Every time you see an animal or bird ask God what he would like you to do to help him.
Dear God, help me to listen to what you are asking me to do, and please give me to courage to keep going, even when what you ask me to do is really difficult. Amen
