God is calling
What noises and sounds can you hear right now?
Can you hear 5 different sounds?
What are the loudest and quietest sounds you can hear at the moment?
Try shouting very loud and whispering very quietly.
What do you think God's voice sounds like?
In the Bible, Hannah's son Samuel didn't recognise God's voice to start with. He thought it was Eli, the priest, calling him. Eli said that it wasn't him, it was God. He told Samuel to go back to bed and listen to what God had to say to him. So Samuel went back to bed and when he heard God calling his name again, he listened carefully.
The Lord then stood beside Samuel and called out as he had done before, “Samuel! Samuel!”
“I’m listening,” Samuel answered. “What do you want me to do?”
1 Samuel 3:10
God likes to listen to us when we are noisy and when we are quiet. He loves to hear what we have to say to him, and sometimes he has a special message to tell us too.
Time to reflect
Try and be quiet for at least one minute every day this week and listening to what God has to say to you. It might help to start by thinking about God.
What do you think God looks like?
Can you imagine him talking to you?
Do you think God is close or far away?
Write down or draw anything that you feel God is talking to you about. You might like to show this to the rest of your family at the end of the week.
Dear God, help me to be quiet and listen to what you want to say to me. Amen
