When was the last time you were so excited about something that you couldn't wait to tell someone else about it? So excited that you wanted to jump up and down and run around the room!
Christmas makes lots of people excited for lots of different reasons. What is your favourite part of Christmas? Why do you like that bit best?
As the angel choir withdrew into heaven, the shepherds talked it over. “Let’s get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us.” They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. Seeing was believing. They told everyone they met what the angels had said about this child. All who heard the shepherds were impressed.
Luke 2: 15 - 18
Although the real message and excitement of Christmas is sometimes lost in amongst all of the other festivities, the Good News of Jesus Christ is still just as exciting today as it was all those years ago when Jesus, the light of the world, was born.
This Christmas, whenever you see some Christmas lights, try and remember to thank God for sending Jesus, the light of the world, to earth to be our Saviour.
Who could you share the Good News about Jesus with this Christmas time?
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus Christ, the light of the world down to earth to be our Saviour. Please help me to remember the real meaning of Christmas this year. Help me to be as excited as the shepherds were when I tell other people about the real meaning of Christmas. Amen
Some of the first people to visit Jesus were the shepherds, who heard the news of Jesus' birth from the angels while they were watching their flocks at night. The angels told them to go and see Jesus, and that they would find him wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Can you imagine the shepherds' excitement! How would you feel if angels visited you in the night with such exciting news?
Once the shepherds had recovered from the shock of seeing the angels, they hurried to Bethlehem to see the new born King. After they found him, they couldn't wait to spread the Good News to everyone else as well!
